I often become completely obsessed with what is next, what I can do to be better, or what I need to become. I feel that I am not alone in this mindset and pursuit of progress whether it be fitness, business, and personal life.
For many, this mindset is a gift. It allows us to be on the edge or in a state of constantly finding a means of progression. Some gifts, however, can become a curse as well. Some, including myself, may find ourselves overwhelmed, anxious, and even contemplate the significance of our pursuits. I think any high level achiever has these moments from time to time. The process of development requires a sensitivity to both success and obstacle.
One must find healthy outlets to rejuvenate him or herself in order to remain consistently growing.
Here are the steps I use to turn my “funk” around:
- Meditate – Hit the brakes, slow down your mind that is running a mile a minute, and get centered
- Gratitude – Look at all you have around you, what life would be like without it, and rejoice
- Look back – reflect on your progress to this point. What has gotten you there? What has deterred you?
- Don’t take yourself too serious – take the work seriously not yourself.
The darkness is as much a part of journey as the light. Don’t feel that you are alone in these feelings. How you handle difficulty is a sign of your willingness to succeed.
