Change the Scenery to get Creative

July will mark my 7th year of being an entrepreneur in the fitness industry.  I must say it has been one incredible journey. During my early years as a coach, I spent much of my time being a technician and was not able to think so much about the big picture. I think that is how it starts for most entrepreneurs, at least the ones like me that didn’t have an incredible social media page idea. I focused on one day at a time, just doing what I loved and spreading it out to as many people as I could in a day.

As time has gone on and the gyms have grown, my role has shifted from not just being a coach, but also, the captain of a ship. We have hundreds of members, full and part time employees that now depend on me to make the right moves and adjustments to keep our ship going during any economic time. I hold this responsibility in very high regard.

Becoming creative and being able to adapt with the times and changing elements requires me to step away from any sort of day to day grind in order to see what is really happening at my facilities, within fitness industry, and the various trends throughout the entire world.

If you are looking to spark some creativity I recommend the following:

  1. Be Alone – Sometimes you just need to have good conversations with yourself to spark a different thought.
  2. Be Around People- I know this contradicts my first recommendation, but it works. Go talk to people that are in different worlds others than yours. Just listen to them.
  3. Change your environment – This doesn’t mean getting on a plane (though that is awesome too), but get away from what you usually see day to day. Instead of going to your local Starbucks drive to one three towns over and do work there. Different landscapes will give you different thoughts.
  4. Look at what other industries are doing to win. Business is business. People are people. Look at what other big brands are doing and steal it. Yep, steal it. Change it up a bit to make it your own..

Over time you will find what sparks this in you. Don’t be afraid to let it change, of course; but the more you practice what makes you tick, you will be able to go there easier and make some amazing breakthroughs.

Let your imagination run wild and execute on that craziness.
