As I continue to work with other box owners, one the main topics that we discuss is sales. For some reason sales and marketing are considered a taboo topic. The misconception that some owners have is that when you focus on sales you fail to focus on the clients and subsequently the community will suffer. One must view sales in a different light; consider how your ability to sell individuals on fitness will not just grow your pocketbook but will promote the longevity of that particular person. Your product is not a gimmick; it truly helps people, so treat it as such.
We hate the feeling of being a pushy salesmen who focus on the bottom line. We ourselves treat salesmen with a certain degree of pessimism because often he or she is trying to manipulate a situation to sell a product. We as CrossFit affiliate owners are in the unique position of have a product that is valid and authentic. I have yet to encounter a box owner who is pushing a faulty agenda on his or her clientele. We have the ability to change lives and each sale will reflect a conscious choice by that individual to improve his or her life. Sales are the lifeblood of your gym and the evolutionary choice of the consumer.
If you are adding value to someone’s life, share that with them. There is no need for this awkward sales pitch, or a constant up sell. Listen to what you customer wants, how they want it, and when they do. From there work your ass off to make it a reality for them. Make them accountable for their progress while delivering the service that you have the passion for.
Sales are a NECESSITY. Look to change your approach this area of your business. Add value to someone’s life, do the right things in a manner that is ethical, so when it comes time to ask for the sale, its not if, it’s how much.
